Living Expenses
I was anticipating to spend about 1/3 of my wages of rent. I now seem to be coming to the conclusion that should I want to not live in a gang-infested shit hole, I may have to spend close to 1/2 of my wages on rent. Needless to say, I was less than impressed by this revelation.
What proportion* of your monthly earnings do you spend on rent? Precise figures are not necessary, nor are they impressive. They'll probably just make you look like a* cock. *small |
Re: Living Expenses
45%
Then again, I have a rather simple lifestyle; I rarely go out, I don't drink and my idea of really throwing away money is buying too much chocolate. It's also because I'm a poor student who's too lazy to get a job. |
Re: Living Expenses
1) That's a percentage, not a proportion. Although that is acceptable, and actually preferable.
2) Where do you live? |
Re: Living Expenses
I live in the Netherlands.
Percentages are proportions. |
Re: Living Expenses
Well, roughly half on average. The thing is, being a student my incomes fluctuate a lot (more during the summer, less during the rest of the year).

Re: Living Expenses
about half
|
Re: Living Expenses
around here you can get a small terraced house for approx. £350 a month rent, although that is climbing as more people are starting to rent houses rather than buy
|
Re: Living Expenses
Hmm. I suppose my %age income spent on rent is negative.

Re: Living Expenses
Around about 40%
|
Re: Living Expenses
About 25%, although i live with my mate, so if he didn't live here it would be closer to 50% mark :(
|
Re: Living Expenses
40%, rising to 50% when you include council tax (which you probably should, since it'll likely be higher the more rent you're paying). That was before my girlfriend moved in though, so it's down to about 25% until she leaves again.

Re: Living Expenses

Re: Living Expenses
Around 28% of my income is allocated as rent expenses. And I am lucky to rent cheap!
For most of my (studying) friends it is about 40-ish% they spend on rent. |
Re: Living Expenses
about 60% goes on household bills and mortgage payment.
Then car insurance and other bits out of whats left... then food etc, doesnt leave much :( |
Re: Living Expenses
25% or so, and i piss away the rest like no tomorrow, i really need to be wiser with money.
|
Re: Living Expenses
i share a 3 bedroom semi detached house with 2 friends and in total i spent a little bit over a quarter of my wages on living there (rent, council tax, water rates, elecricity) i obviously haven't included food in this
|
Re: Living Expenses
too much (NYC)
|
Re: Living Expenses
almost exactly a third (after tax etc)
I'm living on my own in a not too shabby area as well. It's what happens when you live in London unfortunately. |
Re: Living Expenses
How violent exactly it is a "gang-infested shit hole" in the Uk? murder rate like 15/100k?
This would be the rate of a "great place to live" here in brazil, and im alive and well :D Anyways, i saw this guy getting shot dead the other day... drug trafficking issues apparently. Not so bad to live in a 40/100k murder rate country actually. Most people who die are criminals to begin with. Dunno if it is the same over there |

anyhoo that's how we see most brazillian people shot dead in public. I suppose it's a bit different over here. |
Re: Living Expenses
ummm 0% for me at mo since i still live in parents house (which they no longer live in) but my gf pays about 25% of her earnings to live here but most of that is maintenance (utilities/internet etc) rather than rent.
