Re: anyone own a rat?
Not at the moment. I have in the past. There`re quite intelligent, and can grow really big. (They also have large gonads when they grow up)

Re: anyone own a rat?
We have a rat that lives in our run down back conservatory, it sits on the windowsill and watches me make tea some nights. I have got quite used to seeing him and he must be at least 20cm long (not including his tail) but I forgot to tell my GF about him so when she saw him she shat herself and ran off screaming like it could jump through glass or something. :D

Re: anyone own a rat?
Rats are great.
They get attached to their owner and to hell with everyone else. You really can't get a rat that isn't yours to do anything it doesn't want to. That said, they're kind of cute. Male ones less so because they piss everywhere. But they're still pleasantly pointy and playful. As far as training goes, the general rule (as with most animals) is that a rat won't do anything unless there's something in it for the rat. So if you want it to do something, try persuading it to do it with food, and then giving it food when it's done. It should pretty soon figure out that it gets rewards for doing whatever. I'd urge you to teach it to agree to go back into its cage as soon as possible - they really don't like that, and it's incredibly difficult to force them! |

Re: anyone own a rat?
You know, rats are really filthy creatures (no offence to Mr Wendal), kinda like pigeons without the wings and with 2 extra legs or hands or whatever rats have at the front - why didn't you just opt for a mouse?

Re: anyone own a rat?
I once ran over a rat while driving on a country road. Then while looking in the mirror to see how bad I hit it, I ran over a female pheasant.
****ing thing went under the wheel so I didn't even get to bring it home for supper... |

Only a Goth would listen to the Sisters of Mercy for enjoyment value. (Well, there is Vaio, but he's a maniac so he doesn't count.)

Re: anyone own a rat?
Someone I know is apparently keeping a wolf spider in her bathroom. It has a nest in there.
I've made a mental note never to visit her house. |

I'm aware that I have absolutely no real knowledge in this area but there is no ****ing way I'm accepting rats are "very clean" creatures. Maybe in some sort of silly there isn't that much bacteria on their coats sense they're clean but I'm pretty sure there are one or two documented cases throughout history of rats carrying various types of disease. |
