Consumer Query
If I bu something and it becomes faulty, how long do I have before I can send it back?
I bought my phone charger on April 11th of this year on E-Bay. A couple of weeks ago it started developing problems and is gradually getting worse. the people who i bought it off have a return policy of 21 days, which I have obviously passed. Can I get a replacement of is it too late? |
Re: Consumer Query

that's the item. I can't see anthing about a warranty. :( |
Re: Consumer Query
actually, they seem pretty legit so they might do it out of courtesy; call/email and find out.

Re: Consumer Query
It doesn't really matter if it's got an official warranty or not. It needs to be fit for purpose and presumably a phone charger is supposed to last longer than that. Who did you buy it off on Ebay? Some dodgy geezer selling obviously stolen goods online, or some sort of legitimate (?) e-shop?
"Returns policies" usually refer to being able to exchange the item for another (different) one (or get your money back) - not how long they'll repair it for you for. Sale of Goods Act and all that. |
Re: Consumer Query
My camera stopped working properly a week or so ago. The lens wouldn't extend, which meant it couldn't turn on.
I took it to Jessops and my warranty had expired by 3 weeks. They said that they'd send it off to Nikon anyway, to see if they would do anything. They said that chances are that Nikon would fix it anyway, as it was only 3 weeks after warranty and they're nice like that. Sorry to ask the obvious, but instead of posting here, why don't you just phone them up and ask them? There is a number there to contact them, and they're open 9am-6pm! |
Re: Consumer Query
Phone them? Are you crazy!
they'll get a nicely worded e-mail where I can show my disappointment and avoid any unnecessary confrontation. |
Re: Consumer Query
A phone call is better as you can get their name and they can't just ignore it. I don't like doing business through e-mail usually as it's less efficient.
Edit: oh were you being sarcastic? it went over my head :( |

But you're right - it's quite obvious that telephone calls work better in a lot of cases, especially with small firms and situations like this, or when you're trying to get a particular argument across. Nothing worse than a long email chain where no-one really understands what is being discussed. However, I'm one of those dreadful human beings that talks to people on the phone and then (on occassions) indirectly summarises the conversation to them in an email to, using some pathetic and transparent pretext like "I'm emailing to make sure I read out my x details correctly". Worse still giving them an (informal) time driven target to work towards ("I look forward to speaking to you on x to hear the resolution"). At every stage in this process I can't help but think how I'm dragging the average level of awesomeness in the universe by merely existing. :( |
Re: Consumer Query
Yeah, I wasn't being sarcastic. I dislike confronting people, especially over the phone. I shall howver endevour to phone them up and see if I cen send my charger back on Monday. I may as well use the weekend to download a much as possible and transfer it to my other PC before I send it off, my laptop battery having a lifespan of literally 5 minutes or so.

Re: Consumer Query
I don't confront people, it's against my nature (i'm so full of love). Instead, I nervously laugh until they feel sorry for me and give in to my demands. It works wonders!

Re: Consumer Query
Good jo you don't have to control a bunch of people then. ;)
