hrmm Ramadan
So my girlfriend is muslim. For some reason she split up with me during this holy month in the islamic calender called Ramadan. I dont get it shes never shown any interest in religion at all, but now she doesnt eat/drink/smoke during daylight, she doesnt go out, she doesnt drink and least of all she has no "relationship" with me at all.
So my question is what would you do. Would you respect her wishes, split up for a month and do what she wishes which is get back together at the end of October. Or would you leave it. A month is a hell of a long time in the terms of a relationship, and if I cant see her then its a bit shit. Incidently I could of ****ed someone last night :/ But I took her back to my room and felt guilty. Even though im split up with my girlfriend for now, I couldnt help but think about her. I like this one and so sleeping with a fresher didnt greatly appeal to me. I dont know should I of had random sex or should I do the random sex and meet new people? hrmmm I think I may like my girlfriend more than I thought :/ |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
Respect her beliefs. One month really ain't that much. Me and my last gf didn't live at the same place, so it COULD in the worst case take 2 months between our meetings.
|
Re: hrmm Ramadan
i agree with Nadar (especially because he likes my sig ;)). You can still see her and 1 month is over quicker than you think and just imagine if you break up with her and go freelancing for random girls it could happen that you get none for a month too ? :P
(even if i dont want to lower your qualities in 'pulling' here) especially if she wasnt into the relgious things before i dont see a great danger for your relation there. Support her / show interest ... be a good boy ;) |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
I dont see why you had to split up for Ramadam .
Surely she could have just said "i'm not having sex for a month" but still been your girlfriend? I'm not big on religions but i doubt the Quran prevents you from going to the cinema with her or something like that and I'm pretty sure the muslims i know dont split up everytime Ramadam comes around. |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
Ditch her or put up with her messing you about for a month for the next few years.
Which would you prefer ? |

and as Muslims are forbidden to eat pigs, I guess that means no BJ's for you either :)
(can I just insert a mini-rant about my local council banning anything pig related so as not to offend muslim staff... from little piggy desk ornaments to stationery featuring piglet from winnie the pooh - ****ing ridiculous) |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
sex before marriage is a no-no in Christianity too.
|
Re: hrmm Ramadan
Pig i hope you dont take this bad but I think is stupid asking on a public forum how you supposed to act in this kind of sittuation, specially cos you admit you like her. Nobody here should know better than you if you can handle her beliefs, and know how hard is for you to support her on this month. My advice for this matter is "talk to yourself" and see if you think she is worth of such sacrifice. Nobody is better than you to opine since it will be you who will have to live with or without her.

1. As a muslim man, you are not allowed to see a woman's hair or any of her flesh apart from her hands and face. You are not allowed to see her hair either. 2. You are not allowed to listen to music. 3. There are people who say taht wearing a tie is not allowed. 4. You are not allowed to socialise with members of the opposite sex, so having a gir/boyfriend is strictly not allowed. 5. You have to pray 5 times a day! way too many for the normal working person. 6. Alcohol is not allowed, what will we do without beer? :( 7. You aren't allowed to swear or fight. Before anyone calls me racist, think about my background: My dad's family is Muslim, but he doesn't believe in God but is still classed as a Muslim My mum is a Christian. I have been allowed to do whatever I like but my uncle has been trying to turn me into a Muslim, I've always been told that I'm Muslim by everyone since I was little. Only recentely I decided that I follow no religion. Also, anybody who does all that stuff in Ramadan but doesn't do it any other time is not a real Muslim. |

Report her for 'highly suspicious behavior' to MI5 and suggest she be detained under the anti-terror laws.
At least that way she'll have some exciting stories about what she did while you were apart ;) |

Re: hrmm Ramadan
She obviously has her own personal interpretation of what constitutes religious observance and deals with her insecurities the best way she knows how. I really can't see why you're together if you can't empathise with the fact that she finds it difficult to juxtapose some of the traditions she was brought up around (and which she feels attached to) and the way she lives her life when not around those traditions.
A month is hardly a long period of time, id be worried about any partner not believing they could last a month. Frankly id be incredibly upset by anyone who couldn't even last a few days and started thinking about sleeping with other people. Your relationship wouldn't sound very healthy, even without cultural differences. |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
i would dump her. or even stronger, i'd never date a muslim to begin with.
|
Re: hrmm Ramadan
You should have had sex with her.
|
Re: hrmm Ramadan
When you say Ramadan, does a little voice in anyone elses head go 'Do do, de do do' or is it just mine ?
|
Re: hrmm Ramadan
You should break her fast on your pork sword.

Re: hrmm Ramadan
If i recall whatever i learned about the Islam, ramadan is one of the 7 pillars of that religion. So is going to mekka btw, so you better be prepared to miss her for a bit longer one day:)
I respect ppl who live their life religiously, its something i dont do, i dont believe in any GOD, not even in Yahwe. What i do wonder about when i read this post is why she obviously doesnot care much about other...rules and habbits.. like not dating or having sex before you are married. Is she wearing a veil? In fac, is not she a disgrace to her family if she dates a non muslim guy? I dont quite understand why she would have to split up because of ramadan either, imo, if she was a true muslim she wouldnot even be dating you, in every other case its a bit silly to not care about being a muslim an then suddenly splitting up to have ramadan:P Maybe she does it because of pressure from her family, its not really easy atm for muslims in the western world, and its a historical fact hat the worse the times get, the more religious ppl act. |

I think the comedy of this all is that a guy, hiding behind the nick of 'pig' dates a muslim girl and starts a thread about the Ramadan.

I would like to post and say something.
But whatever I'll say, people will just flame me for it. So I'm not going to add/clarify anything. P.S. Pig, you didn't tell me you're gf was muslim. Could have helped you out there when we last met. |

Whilst having undue indecision isn't particularly good, having undue certainty isn't that great either. I can only make the decision that there is no god because I know of sufficient evidence to support that, or rather a lack of evidence for god. |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
Absence of evidence is most definitely not evidence of absence in this case. While it may be an example of fallacious reasoning at times, it's pretty damn difficult to perform any sort of vaguely useful search for god as by definition you can't find him. Of course I think this means that by definition god's slightly less relevant than the piece of lint floating past my screen right now. Still doesn't mean he's not there playing table-tennis with buddha in a big cloud floating just to the left of the universe though.

Re: hrmm Ramadan
I once dated a muslim girl who as yuors is, is not religious but whenit came to Ramadan, she suddenly turned religious. I believe it is family connections, if her parents are religious tehn the daughters sons will have to stick to the certain set of rules, and you can bet she would have to be at home every night for it, for prayers and other stuff so I understand her breaking up with you for a month part. i find they are more hassle than they are worth in the end, but that fact still doesnt stop you in the end.
I do agree that most religions are hypocritical and islam is just takes the cake. I had quite a few muslim friends who would drink, smoke get laid etc. When it came to ramadan they would continue the smoking and drinking but not the sex, and because they stuck to one rule during ramadan the would class themselves good muslims and believe they did right. I asked one of my friends one day and he tried to justify it by saying there were 3 levels of badness, smoking and drinking were on the 3rd level and sex and other things were the 1st, so because they only did the 3rd level of badness it was ok, heh. Also if u bleed or throwup during the fast, isnt that classed as the fast is broken? |

This is a very seperate concept to religion and an 'interventionist god'. It depends on the semantics of the word 'creator'. Those that do truly have faith in religion and an interventionist 'god' believe its all beyond comprehension, so it doesn't really matter anyway. |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
This is rapidly becoming a linguistic argument. When a lot of people say 'agnostic' they mean "Well, I'm not really sure if the Christian God exists, he very well might do, I'm 50/50 on this one!". That's what Adams is arguing against.
However, the original use of agnostic implied something different (which is what Jakiri is talking about). If someone asks me what religion I am, I say I am an atheist. It's the quickest way of getting across what I'm talking about. I could say I'm a strong agnostic or whatever, but what would be the point? |

Re: hrmm Ramadan
I don't believe in God, because theres no evidence, but i still feel wierdish saying that because a lot of things im studying (dark matter/energy etc.) we have no proof just believe to be there... im just not good enough with words to counter that argument :(

Re: hrmm Ramadan
The problem is that when people say 'God' or 'Religion' everyone automatically assumes that they're talking about the christian/jewish/muslim/etc God.
I say I'm agnostic but I certainly don't think that any of the popular religions are anywhere near being correct. I think it is possible that there is some essence outside of our understanding that set down the rules of the universe. Which makes me agnostic... |

If someone believes God exists, then they have to accept that either
On the subject of some Muslims giving up some things but not others for Ramadan, surely this can only be a good thing. Picking and choosing the bits that suit them is progress towards rejecting the belief completely, the English church being relegated to 'traditional wedding and funeral location' being an example. |
Re: hrmm Ramadan
punch da bitch in da face, then force feed her a bacon sandwich followed by your throbbing cock. When da police come by tell them ramadan did it with his ding dong.

Science and Empirical evidence tell us that at some point in the past (according to GR) the whole universe should have been a singularity. The problem with this is that singularities are smaller than the planck length, at which the laws of the universe effectively break down. In the absence of any testable statements from the various theories such as Ekpyrosis and so on, that might get round of this problem, what science and Empirical evidence show, is that we don't know enough to actually come to a conclusion on the matter. |
