[Football]* Play Offs
 

So today we saw 5th place take on 6th for a place in the Premier and the 6th place team, who managed to hold on to their top quarter finish on the last day of the season, won the right to play with the big boys next year.

Yesterday also saw 5th vs 6th, although 5th went up.

I know the whole 'it makes the season great, it extends it, you know what you're getting yourself into when you start the season etc' arguments but I'm not the biggest fan of 6th placed teams getting promoted. For me, a much fairer system would be for 4th to play 5th, as they currently do (so we'd have still gone out), and the winner of this to play the 3rd place team in the final. (Obviously 5th and 6th play each other with the winner playing 4th in the final for league two.)

If it had been Derby going up in 6th place you wouldn't be complaining!

Personally i think the play-offs are god-awful, unfair on the team that finishes third and purely created to make money.

I'm also of the oppinion that the champion's league should not be for teams that finish fourth in their domestic league.

It's all about money though which is somewhat sad, yet unavoidable.

this season would have been even worse without the play-offs. It was clear from about christmas that Sunderland, Wigan and Ipswich were gonna finish top three...
Maybe have the semi-finals over one game instead of two with the higher placed teams at home...

It would be interesting if the losing finalist played the fourth from bottom premiership team too...

Yea, i agree.

Not least because i think the league would be more interesting four (maybe even more? premiership teams got relegated.
