Math

I don't 'get' math. I have to work with numbers and it's freaking me out a bit. I have to work with SPSS soon.

Can someone recommend me a book which explains math simply?

i usually find learning to count as a good place to start

Re: Math

If you're not keen on maths, use qualitative analysis instead.

Otherwise you should probably check the BBC's keystage websites. I believe they go up to GCSE level. Once you're happy with those concepts I suspect you could pick up any post-GCSE textbook.

Re: Math

It's a part of my 'Research Methods' course. My lecturer has memorised the facts and has no idea about the underlying theory.

I could just memerise how to do it, but I want to know a bit more.

Yeah math, I think I've heard of that...

Could you be a bit more specific?:

Start with Cauchy-Riemann and work your way up from there.

I would if I could but etc etc...

It tends towards things like statistics or something. It seems rather basic to be honest (she actually spent 10 minutes explaining to the class what a bar chart was but didn't bother to explain the symbaols in the equations). Having said that I've not done anything like this for 8 years.

I actually made this thread halfway through the class when I actually felt the need to understand what was going on. I think I'll just memorise it and start learning about it in the summer.

I'm sure there are introductory statistics books out there.

I seem to recall when we studied such things in high school we called it Quantitative Methods.

that aside, math is the bane of all free-thinkers :P .. and as a programmer I find myself at a conflict of interest as my pet hate is required to further my pet love :(
