Do you digg?

www.digg.com ?
It's the new slashdot, apparently.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...89&q=explosion
^^^ fireworks factory blowing up vid is currently #1. Just to give you an idea of what the mindset is. I subscribe to the rss feed. Some interesting stuff on there sometimes. The comments are shit though.

Not being under editorial control (as slashdot is) has both good and bad points I think, but I do read it from time to time.

Re: Do you digg?

i read it from time to time, its anarchic really.
sometimes you find things which other news sites havent picked up on, other times its just like reading through a trolls online blog
(incidently theyve got a bad habit of linking all things in articles to blogs, forcing another click to get to the source - that sorta thing annoys me somewhat)

It says: "As you can see in slow motion, the final blast was strong enough to take the roof off of buildings."

22 people died, and hundreds were injured. The perpetrator got 15 years in jail.

All according to digg comments.

I'm not entirely sure how much I trust statements ending "according to digg comments". I mean, is there any particular reason I should treat "according to digg comments" any differently from "according to the White House"?

Re: Do you digg?

That was that fireworks factory explosion in Enschede in Holland wasn't it, the one that killed 23 people.

Obligitory BBC link
News thingy

To be honest, it's a spectacular video, but knowing so many people died (and probably that cameraman) doesn't really make it fit into 'cool' or 'funny'.

Who the **** puts a fireworks factory and storage depot in a housing estate?

It's obvious that shoutwire is the copy if you consider the amount of diggs vs shouts on the 'frontpage.' That is assuming that higher traffic originated from having existed first.

Copycats.

Yes I remember it quite vividly.

It was saterday the 13th, we had a match and it was a clear blue sky.

Suddenly we hear 2 big blasts and the sun is blocked by a huge cloud. First we thought the ammunitions depot of the nearby military airfield exploded, then we thought of our science teacher going mayhem.

In the end an entire living block was wiped out. I quite remember it, as I live 5 miles from it. 13 dead, and a complete city in shock.

That, and the movie isn't 'that good' to be honest.

Well the video was good, the story behind it wasn't...
