DOOM
[ooc]Disclaimer: This thread is heavily based on the Doom 3 PC game. Some plot will be followed, some will be created by myself.[/ooc] The Union Aerospace Corporation is the largest military hardware supplier to the nations of Earth. Ranging from small-arms to the latest gunships and spacecraft, they hold a virtual monopoly over all military hardware. Since becoming the principle military supplier, they have branched off in space travel, colonization of the other planets in the solar system, archeological research of ruins on Earth, and increasing their weapons technology. One of their most public stations is the Mars Base. The 1st permanent base set up on the planet Mars, it is a hodgepodge of various levels of technology. There are even rumors floating about that ancient alien ruins have been found on Mars. In any case, lots of groundbreaking research has been done recently on the planet of Mars. Your Role You are a UAC Marine assigned to security detail for the Mars Base. You can pick the following equipment to use, along with your specialization. Also please provide the standard details, such as name, age, history, etc. If you come up with a piece of equipment that you would like to see, suggest it and Ill debate about adding it. Finally, new items will become available throughout the thread. You can choose to start already on base, or be part of the new detachment of Marines just arriving to the Mars Base.

At 14, now relocated to far more unstable areas, she became a child soldier and at 18 she was imprisoned. Her childhood has led to her developing several mental disorders such as mood swings (from smug and confident to silent or even aggressive), a hate-fear view on men and a sexual interest in young boys. Shortly after she was released from prison at the age of 21, she joined UAC and has since served in many arctic regions, where she is most at home. Situation: Cali deals with a small number of mental issues, but has proven well adapt at hiding these from psychologists. She speaks Romanian, Russian, English and is a novice to Mandarin. Notes: Okay people, welcome to DM post #1. You may notice that it has the layout of the facility. Being all Marines of the same rank, you all have limited access to the various areas of the base (for now). Also, you may notice there are several shifts.
Also, once 4-5 people have posted, I will DM again. Late-comers: You can still join for a short period of time, but make it SOON! |
Re: Doom
"God damnit!"
Duke throws his cup to the ground, spilling coffee everywhere, and picks up his awaiting medkit and other gear. He runs through the door and hurries down the hallway. Jogging towards the main Alpha corridors, Duke decides to step it up as he hears faint screams of pain and slight horror. "Great" He mutters to himself. "Another psycho from Delta or somewhere going over the deep end and attacking himself. I really hate having to resuce these bastards." Duke bursts through the doors of the hospital, bumping into somone, who shouts, but he rushes off. Jogging up the corridor and making various turns and going through two security checkpoints, Duke finally makes it to the mess hall and rushes in to survey the situation. |
Re: Doom
" I messed up hacking a UAC mainframe and they save me from jail just to give me a freezing cold shower." Dylan mumbels this under his breath as he wraps the towel around himself and decides to go to his barracks to get dressed for the day. " D*m bueacracy of corperrations."
He notices some marines gathering around and looking a little confused at the sudden loss of power. As he heads out the door he cat calls at them and says. " Come on you suckers the lab rats are just running another experiment lets just get ready and go." |
Re: Doom
Bloody power-cuts again...
*Cid got out of bed and got himself in his gear, wishing he had a flashlight on him as he got dressed. After a while, when he was fully equiped, Cid looked around to see what exactly had gone on before having a sneak-peak out of the room to see if the corridor had their emergency lights on.* |
Re: Doom
*Flapjack carefully stumbled back into the barracks, almost tripping over a variety of items that shouldn't be on the floor, but where there anyways, before reaching his bunk. They didn't keep their weapons in the barracks, but at least he'd have his PDA and his flashlight, as well as some decent clothing*
*Quickly putting his clothes, Flapjack started wondering why the power went out this time, the last couple of times he never had enough time to get his generator hooked up and running, but he grabbed the reasonably small box anyways and headed into the messhall, where a small fusebox was located* "Okay, let's see if I'm fast enough this time" *With that, Flapjack cracks the fusebox open as he had done several times before and started connecting the wires of his generator to the barrack's powergrid, hoping to at least be done before the power came on this time* ooc/ How big are these 'portable' power generators? Obviously my stating that they're reasonably small is rather relative (obviously a full scale generator is ever so slight a lot bigger) so it'd be usefull if I had some more info /ooc |
Re: Doom
Seemingly, Roxborough has skipped her shift and decided to take a shower and some breakfast instead.
Roxborough's eyes turn upwards to the dead lamps as the extra light filters through. That's all the reaction the power failure recieves and she reaches for a cup of water which she drained in a swift swig before standing up. Clad in only pants and a tank top she pads barefoot over the cold floor, wanting to get away from the commotion, and makes her way into her barrack. She sits down on her bed, looking down into the floor. She is possibly the only woman around here and she doesd her best to stay away from the men, not finding any of them to be pleasant company. Showering isn't a problem - she doesn't care what the guys see or think - but the lack of people to talk to gets straining sometimes; especially when there are people all around her. She lies down on the bed, her eyes closing, not fearing the possibility of sleep: The nightmares some of the men - the sane people - had experienced hadn't struck her. And if they did, she'd most likely just feel annoyed at the disturbance of her sleep. |
Re: Doom
Eightteen year old Fluffie put the weights away and got up, looking about. (Assuming I'm alone in the gym due to some miracle ;)) This wasn't normal. (Assuming Ν only have my PDA with me due to working out.) He reached for his PDA and got it working, trying to communicate with the boss people. Making sure to speak loud enough and clearly, he wondered if he should've been walking around somewhere, patrolling, instead of working out on his shift.
*tgggk* "This is Fluffie... Should I be reporting anywhere?" |
Re: Doom
Slick, walking on his patrol, watches the lights die yet again, and the backup lights turn on, "great! i wish those damn scientists would do their job properly....."
Slick continues to walk around holding his shotguns, and trying to focus on the coridoors with only backup lights, he takes his PDA out and puts one shotgun away. Turning it on, he looks at his patrol route again on the map and sighs. "I should have stayed in the Earth army...." Slick puts his PDA away and grabs for his flashlight, he switches it on, giving minimal extral lighting, he carries on down the hangar till he reaches a door, flashing his light over it, he sees the security system is also down. "Goddamn, you'd think they'd put this on backup, anything with enough strength can get these doors open" He places the emergency pads onto the door sides and pulls the doors open. He then walks through and looks with his flashlight |
Re: Doom
Gokan pulls on what few pieces of gear he wasn't already wearing, and secures his flashlight in it's shoulder-mount.
He looks over at Cid. "I hope this just means someone plugged a toaster into the socket by the molecular flux inhibitor again..." He stands, yawns and stretches, subconsciously patting down his vest and holsters as he does so. He reaches a large pocket that clearly should have something in it. He glances down, squinting slightly as though it would help with the poor lighting. "Aha!" He reaches down and retrieves the power-crowbar. He presses the catch and the 'bar' extends like an old 20th century police baton, once fully extended the tip flips over and it is immediately recognisable as a crowbar. "Just in case any of the doors have lost power..." he presses the button again and the tool retracts down somewhat, making it more portable. He grabs his helmet and tucks it under one arm as he returns the crowbar to it's rightful home. [ooc]One question: What exactly can one do with a "power multitool"? Deus Ex style multitools? Or what? Oh and should Fluffie really have a Heavy Marine in his equipment list? I mean, where does he keep it? :p[/ooc] |
Re: Doom
DM #1 (While bored at work)
Disruptor - Running through the halls, you flash your ID at the reader at the guarded entrance to the Alpha area. As the door beeps, you run in, and notice that the Alpha area is running on backup generators. Reaching the mess, you see 2 marines trying to hold down the scientist, who's one wrist is gushing blood. With superhuman strength, the scientist, looking scrawny, throws off one of the Marines, and slashes at the other, cutting him across the face. Pulling out a tranq, you rush up an inject the scientist. The scientist looks at you with a crazed look, then mutters something before slapping you away. As you fall, you see the scientist waver, look at his knife, then before anyone can react, stab himself in the eye as he falls forward unconscious. Mrmao - Reaching your barracks, you see some other Marines looking confused, for the lack of power was going on far longer than normal. Getting dressed, you notice that the power systems are still not coming back online. The door to your barracks open and your C.O. comes storming in, fully dressed and armed. "Alright ladies, we got ourselves a early mission. The eggheads overloaded one of the generators, and they need some help, namely heavy lifting to get it back online. So get dressed, and double-time it to the workshop. Mrmao, there are reports of a security bot not showing up on the security network, with it's patrol route being near the hanger bay, see what's up with it." AcidK - Grabbing your gear and clothing, you quickly get dressed before checking the corridor. Checking out the corridor, you see various marines running about. Hearing a beeping noise, you follow it to your PDA. Pulling it out, you see a message from your C.O., ordering you to gear up and prepare for deployment and to meet in the armory. Flapjack - (Portable Power Generators are about 30cm high, 60cm wide and 30cm deep.) - Even though it was somewhat against regulations to keep a Portable Power Supply, you decide to hook it up to the fusebox. Quickly connecting it, you flip the switch. Instantly the lights reactive in the barracks room, but you still don't hear the ventilation system working. Checking the indicator, you see that for some strange reason, a lot more power is being drawn from the generator than should be. Dunin Hemm - As you eat your breakfast, you notice an egghead, eating alone and muttering to himself, jump up, screaming and start slashing himself with his knife. While you are disinterested in helping at first, you remember your orders to protect the eggheads. Running over, you see another Marine (Richpur) also run over. You two pin down the egghead, but then somehow the egghead heaves, gaining strength and throws you away. You go flying and land hard. The doors to the mess hall open and a medical marine (Disruptor) runs in, preparing a tranq. The egghead then slashes at Richpur, cutting his face, before Disruptor is able to hit the egghead with the tranq. The egghead then knocks Disruptor away, before mumbling something, waver, then stabs himself in the eye before falling unconcious. Fluffie - Checking your PDA, you see that you have a full-signal to the base network, however a indicator indicates the the communications system is overloaded at the moment. A few seconds later your PDA beeps at you, and a message to your entire squad appears on it, ordering you to gear up and prepare for early deployment and meet in the armory. Slick - Having 2 shotguns on patrol makes you feel a little better, but for praticality sake, you are currently only carrying one. With the power not reactivating, you go through the door looking for any other marines to see what should be done. As you walk about, you look and see some kind of liquid on the ground. Examining it, you see that it is blood, and there appears to be more up ahead. You think back, and remember there was suppose to be another marine patrolling this area, but there is no sign of him. As you think, you start to hear a ticking sound, like metal on metal up ahead. Spritely Zombie - (Power Crowbar - Think of it as Deus-Ex multitool, useful for bypassing damaged systems, locked doors, smashing headcrabs, etc etc) - Getting dressed, you check your powercrowbar, an entire toolkit in a easy to carry design. Seeing the other Marine (AcidK) check the corridor, you hear your PDA beep. Checking it, you see it is from your C.O., ordering you to gear up and prepare for early deployment, and to meet in the armory. |
Re: Doom
Okay, I noticed I screwed up some of the shifts with your locations/environment. Follow what I posted description wise.
As for moving between sections, Alpha -> Beta and vise versa take some time to do, so it is unlikely you can move between them in a single post (Disruptor [Hence why I ignored some of what you said]). When going to the other sections, those take even longer. Transport between Alpha -> Beta - There are 2 security checkpoints that govern access to Beta area. These are staffed and have turret chainguns for defence. Also, for the first few posts, your actions may be altered to better fit the plot atm. Partially cause I'm lazy, partially cause I made a few minor errors, partially cause I improvise :-p. |

Re: Doom
Flapjack quickly glanced around him to see if there where any C.O.s in the area, after all, the power usage of just this small grid shouldn't have been that big, before saying/yelling (depending the proximity of the closest C.O.) "Sir, the powergrid is acting weird, I'm gonna pop the fuses for the barracks and bypass them for the back-up generator to full power restored to this area, hopefully anyways."
With that, Flapjack quickly toggled all of the fuse switches to the off position, dropping the room into darkness once more, before rewiring his portable generator to provide power after the fuses (thus isolating the barracks powergrid from the rest, in the assumption that the powerdrain is outside of the baracks area) Following procedures had ment he had turned the generator off before unhooking it and setting up on the barracks grid, thus Flapjack flipped the switch on the generator again, then mutter something about this better working now |
Re: Doom
/OOC: I really don't want to cause you any fuss, and I know you have your reasons, but my character is my own, and you must let me role-play her as I see fit. What you described is nothing that Roxborough would do, especially since there are many others around.
We'll say that another marine did the holding, while Roxborough was in the barracks, gearing up for next shift. Anyway, since she's left for another section, I guess she's out for the time being. /OOC She sits up after a while, planting both hands on the matress to prop herself up. She just sits there and thinks for a while, before shrugging and getting up on the floor, figuring that she might as well join next shift as her standard one had been cancelled or whatever. She drags out her coffer from under her bed, in which the smell of napalm rests. She pulls out her uniform, getting dressed, before she begins donning armour, weapons and miscellaneous equipment. Standing fully armed, face obscured by the gasmask (I presume?), she makes her way out to the Armoury. |
Re: Doom
Question: shall i go back and divide up that post into sections and tamper with it so it fits ur dm or just make a new one fitting ur dm and change the other so its just me walking?
|
Re: Doom
MrMao got his light armour on and attached his flashlight to his shoulder. Now he had at least some light. As he strapped the basic medkit most marines carried with them the rest of the shift was heading off to go do the heavy lifting.
"Blasted nerds and there security bots, this base would run a whole lot smother if the security bots were useds for heavy lifting and the marines do the guard job like they were supposed too." Mrmao say aloud as all most all his shift was out of the room. He grabed his Security PDA as he was heading out. He was heading to the armopury to check out his pistols, in the past few weeks violence amoung the personal had been on the rise and he didn't want to be unequiped in case some wacko decides to pick on him. Plus a security bot that has cut itself off from the network would most likley engage any person it came across. |
Re: Doom
Deployments, why do they always scare the hell out of people with deployments...
*Cid preoceeded to the Armoury with a fast march, not bothering to run as he saw no major rush and his PDA never mentioned it as an emergency nor to be there ASAP. This kind of confused others that were rushing past him as if there was an emergency or as if it was first come first serve. Cid knew his chaingun and was never given out to anyone else, mainly because he had graffiteed it during bored flights or during operations. Instead of the military standard, it was now Cid standard.* |

Re: Doom
Duke leaps to his feet and catches the scientist seconds before he hits the ground. Had he hit, the knife would have pushed clear through the back of his head. Duke flips the scientist on his back and rips open his advanced met kit. The man's face is gushing blood, but the man himself is quiet and passive. Duke injects the tranquilizer and then injects a heavy dose of morphine.
"Duke to base! Duke to base! We have a code blue up here in the mess. The crazy guy stabbed himself in the eye. We need a paramedic team up here to move him back to the hosiptal. He's losing blood fast, I will try to stop the blood and ease whatever pain he may be experiencing. Subject is currently unconscious." Duke continues to wipe the blood away but doesn't remove the knife, fearing that the knife is inside the man's brain and removal could very well kill him. After wiping away a good deal of blood, and getting a good deal all over himself, Duke puts a patch around the man's eye to stop further bleeding. He takes the man's pulse and then realizes that his own jaw is quite sore. 'I must ice that later' he thinks. Duke stays with his patient and awaits the arrival of the medteam to transport the sceintist. |

OOC: Just saying, but i tend to carry on from my last post, i'll always incorparate whats in my story you write tho.... just sayin
Slick walks through the door and finds a puddle on the floor. Walking over to it he see's its slowly moving towards a small drain, so quickly he shines his flashlight towards it and sees it's red, He gently puts his finger into it and tastes it. "Jesus H Christ, this is blood!" He gets up, remembering that there was supposed to be a marine in here, and carries on walking forward. As he reaches the bottom of some stairs, he notices a slight ticking sound, almost as if some robot happened to be walking around, but that was impossible, as the last mechanoid was dismatled around here after it went crazy.... Slick walks up the stairs carrying his shotgun close to him. He opens up the cartridge to check everything is in order. OOC: i don't know the other marinees name, so for now, i'll just call him Marnine.... "Marnine!" Slick shouts as he walks up the stairs "Are you there? Your injured, we have to get you to the infimary as quick as possible" There is no reply. Slick carries on walking up the stairs until he reaches the top, where there is a long corridoor, He walks cautiously down the corridoor holding his shotgun in front of him as he walks. He removes his PDA from his pocket, knowing that the marine will have a tracer on him and searches for it. The Tracer Shows that he is in the room ahead of him, and he is badly injured.... |
