What is this and why is it happening?
Ladies & Gents,
I have just formatted a PC and installed Windows XP Home Edition. I am getting these pop up windows. http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/3...whywhy16xa.jpg http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/5...whywhy21lq.jpg It is most puzzling. All I did was reformat the machine, install the OS and install the ISP software (Blueyonder). Now I have also done reformat on my home PC and I am getting the same. (Except I am using XP Pro & OneTel as an ISP). They are both legit copies of the software (not copied discs). Can someone please pin down why this is happening. Many thanks |
Re: What is this and why is it happening?
They're adverts that take advantage of a feature in windows. go to start and run then type services.msc and press ok. then look for a service called "messenger" and make sure it is disabled. this will not affect msn messenger.

To be honest, I knew about services.msc but had a feeling ending the this particular service would interupt with any future messages that may need to be displayed in Windows. Learn something every day ;) |
Re: What is this and why is it happening?
It's only known to be essential to some print drivers for status communication. however it's irrelevant anyway as this security hole has been patched since service pack 1
