I would have thought that you would have realised that this kind of shit happens everywhere. It's not particularly desireable, but it's also unfair to judge the supporters of a team by the actions of a few idiots especially when other teams do the same.

Re: Scousers cross the line

Completly in agreement with what you have said I got angry when blose fans threw red and white paint over our lions at VP, but then again in the 70s one villa fans snuck into st andrews on a fri nite stole the goalposts and wrote villa in the penalty areas. Now to me both are quite comic. But something where people have died and taunting the opposition about it is quite wrong. All teams do it, but considering liverpool and there connection with death it seems slightly weird why some fans chose to do so.

Yes they may be the minority and your absolutely right not to judge the majority by people who do these things.

I agree with Jakiri. Arsenal supporters can be anti-semitic towards Spurs, Man U fans can be xenophobic towards Arsenal, etc.

Above all, rival supporters want to hit a team where it hurts. In the case of Man U, it's Munich.

Everyones anti semetic to spurs, I mean you have to be when they call themselves the yid army.

that just then was a shockingly bad justification pig. ****ing hell.

anyway, I'd say there are only two things opposition fans have taunted us about that i'm aware of that have really got me riled up.

the first was a few years ago: celtic came to easter road. a couple dozen of them brought tear gas, which they threw into the east stand. cue hillsborough-esque stampeding, injuries, crying kids, etc etc. almost the entire away stand is singing, as the paramedics rush to help, "you're not singing any more".

the second, which has only stopped recently, is hearts fans on derby day, mocking tony mowbray because his wife died of cancer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_air_disaster

Eight of Manchester United's players died in an aircrash on the runway at Munich airport. At the time the club were English champions and front-runners in the European Cup. Their success had been built on an outstanding crop of young players known as the Busby Babes.

trying to joke around, although im confused as to what you though I meant etc

But considering they themselves play on there jewish heritage etc then songs back at them such as "wheres your foreskin gone" is good humoured banter, considering they banter back I cant see any harm sakes

oh no, man utd fans are unhappy?
maybe they should go and set up another different club that they can bankroll through the lower leagues.

I dont remember this and I'm pretty sure it would have made front page news

What does 'few years ago' mean?

Is that really any worse than the Graham Rix stuff?

PS I make jokes about the holocaust so I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel criticising people over mocking the deaths of 30 odd people.

how is it the same as the graham rix thing? last i checked, kiddy fiddling isn't usually regarded as a harrowing personal tragedy for the kiddy fiddler.

Being jailed and having your life ruined just for having sex with a 15 year old girl who you believed was 16 seems a harrowing personal tragedy to me.

"kiddie fiddling", you know better than this.

Well, its a context thing. The jewish pizza joke is hilarious, but it wouldnt be if it were being told by a known anti-semite. Nothing is intrinsically malicious, it all depends on the context in which its being said. Theres a fairly important difference between person X making a lighthearted joke about the Munich disaster, and a large group of football fans chanting "Who's that lying on the runway?" at people who know and care about those who died.

edit: plus, the songs Man U fans sing about liverpool are objectively funnier anyway

Park, Park, wherever you may be
You eat dogs in your home country
But it could be worse; you could be Scouse
Eating rats in your council house

daughter of a family friend? I'm not seeing it. Bluntly though, if you're set on sleeping with someone a third your age, you should at least be checking these things first. I wouldn't say the girl was an innocent little lamb who was senselessly violated, but I certainly would say he doesn't have an excuse to hide behind.

My view on it is that Rix committed a rather distasteful crime, and has tried to play the victim card: both at the time, and later on when he comes in for criticism.

And 'having your life ruined'? He's been able to get high-paying jobs to which he is ill-suited ever since, and he got fully six months in prison. Boo ****ing hoo.

I don't see the parallel except 'breaking a law'. The vital difference, to me, is that Pete Doherty taking heroin has no victims, whereas a 41-year-old having sex with a 15-year-old rather does. That's why there are consent laws. I suppose if you think the age of consent is too high you could probably justify it but I think that's where we meet a fundamental difference of opinion.

Either way, it's still a world apart from losing your wife to cancer.

Was she really a victim if she consented? Is he just another victim of our statutory rape laws?

It was front and backpage news Nod. Alas, you dont read anything less intellectual than "The Scotsman" so you missed it inbetween the financial headlines.

Who, may i ask, was the victim if she consented?

Your complete opposite opinions to similar arguments in two different threads implies that you are trolling in in at least one.

On topic,
From a football forum:
Quote:

Apparentley it was actually some Chelsea fans that did it and have tried to make it look like the liverpool fans have done it, Well that is what they have been posting on the chelsea fans forum on one of their websites so ive been told. Also the bottle thrown from the crowd was from a chelsea fan and aimed at crouch. Some fans were mingled together as Man Utd didnt screen every single ticket buyer (but why would they?) How nice to see chelsea lose anyway!
Quote:

Apparentley what stirred things up was when the Liverpool fans arrived they were greeted by graffiti from man ure fans saying..... hillsbrough 96 hahahahaha and heysel hahahahahaha and die you murdering scouse scum. Not all fans act like idiots and im sure it was just a minority of fools that did the damage
etc etc

Phang 24 Apr 2006 10:18

Re: Scousers cross the line

my point was, if you read the words in it, that I don't view fifteen-year-olds, at least on average, as capable of informed consent. I've argued a few times on here that the full age of consent should be raised to 18.

The fact that mister Rix was twenty six years older than her at the time lends to my view here.

KoeN 24 Apr 2006 10:49

Re: Scousers cross the line

after the fireworksstore exploded (and an entire neighbourhood was blown away), supporters of teams we had to play against made fireworks-sounds.

ajax always has to hear 'the sound of gaschambers' ("ssssssss") and songs like "hamas, hamas, jews to be gassed" whenever they play, because their fans call themselves 'jews'.

players of feyenoord 2 were once beaten up after having played ajax 2 at their trainingground.

and yesterday 425 feyenoord-hools got arrested when waiting for ajax-fans after the match.

etc, etc. nothing surprises me anymore. nor does it shock me in the slightest.

The thread isn't football-tagged. There was no need to bring up Yahwe's sexual orientation.
