2006 Posting Activity Spectacular!
 
Whose posted most this year? Or in the last six months? Who have clearly abandoned us and who is the new life of the forums is contained, in all it's objective glory, below.

Rather than try to fit everything in one table here, I've posted a couple. The overall summary / info is here : http://www.harriscrew.com/~dante/Poster_Activity.htm (apologies if that doesn't work in your browser - it seems OK in IE and Opera but it's an Excel produced file so wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work elsewhere).

As always gaps exist where people are in the top x now but weren't in it before. It also means some of the lower ranks are wrong but I doubt anyone cares.

Finally, I would note that from December 05 to June 06 the top 9x posters made about 32k posts. From June 06 to December 06 there was about 16k. :(

Same here, it feels like years :(


I've posted a lot less in the last 6 months than in the first half of this year - 1707 posts vs 765. That's mainly because I haven't got involved in many debates, and I've deleted quite a lot of posts while being halfway through writing them. Since I never really make threads, I'll have to sort this out for 2007.

See I dont really post here much for a main reason, I like visiting this thing called "Outdoors" where I interact with this group called "Real People". Its nice not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling of being part of an internet elite ;)

The only source of information I have on how many posts someone has made is by looking at the Members List page where all users are listed with their post count. The first three pages of that represents the top 90* posters which works out as everyone over about 2k posts. To go further down to include yourself (for example) I'd have to include everyone in the top 300 which would make the process fairly tedious.

Secondly to make a comparison I'd also have to have information about the top 300 posters six months ago and a year ago (which I don't). So while I could put a table together of the top 300 posters, I wouldn't be able to work out how many of their posts were in the last six months, so most of it would be blank. If I was working from periodic backups of the users table then it'd be different but all I'm doing is comparing the information here with the information in a thread I made six months ago here and neatening it up in a text editor.

In short, it's a question of pragmatism / laziness rather than some form of elitism. If you want to save the top 300 into an easily formatted table then go right ahead.

* = It's slightly more complicated than this. JammyJim as forum admin doesn't appear on the members list page and a couple of people are new entries so overall there's about 94 or something people in the list.

I think it was more than this though, he was hardly positive about the forums generally when he left (I think he was angry we lost the funny). I also think he may have asked for his account to be deleted at one point, or something like that.

Yeah, I've only looked at accounts here, not people. If people are going to fag around with more than one account then **** that for a game of toy soldiers.

So pig's post count above doesn't include the posts he made as 'Gimmick' and Nusselt is listed above as not having posted but he's actually been fairly active with his 'milo' account. Since the admins can change a nick upon request (or have in the past) if people wanted to save their post counts they could, so I presume they don't care.

p.s. Anyone who is curious to how many posts they make in the next six months, just post your post-count in this thread. dda posted how many posts he had made in the old thread and so even though he wasn't in the old top 90 I could still work out how many posts he had made.

It's because I don't have any figures for you for June 2006 or December 2005, and therefore can't calculate a figure for you. Really it should be a gap, not 0 but there we go.

I think this is a great thing and Dante is wonderful for putting the effort in to do it.

Deep down we're all number geeks and love stats (why else would we have even contemplated signing up for Planetarion, however long ago it may be?!).
