Audio codecs
Hi Everybody!
I'm thinking of re-encoding my mp3 collection into ogg files for the benefit in audio quality. I know going from mp3 to ogg directly will reduce audio quality but I have lossless backups of my mp3's in ape format. The point of this thread is I'm curious about what methods other people on these baords are using to encode audio atm. What quality settings would you use, atm I'm encoding at 6.64 quality using ogg vorbis. This is a fairly big operation with 10k+ mp3's and I'd like a little technical input before I go mad encoding. |
Re: Audio codecs
Ogg vorbis, -5.
If you want to recode, use Foobar. That does large groups of files quite well. |
Re: Audio codecs
would flac be a better alternative to ape in terms of lossless encoding for any new cd's I get my hands on? It seems to be better supported but it generates larger files in my experience.

Re: Audio codecs
Flac's my choice for lossless, certainly. File size isn't that much of an issue (most of the time anyway).
