Aint gonna win the league

Ive always thought that Chelskji was going to win the league this year, due to their immense squad.
But as a gooner, you always hope.
Now the time for hope has gone.

Southapton 1 - Arsenal 1

Not only did the team manage just a draw on a team facing relegation, but the way it was done was also signaling worse things to come.
Van Persie, the idiot, managed to get sent off, after an elbow and a horrible tacle.

Wenger, its time to teach the kids how to behave.

Congrats Roman.

How many sendings off is that now that have occured under Wenger's rule?

MrL_JaKiri 26 Feb 2005 17:41

Re: Aint gonna win the league

Well, 2 in the last 2 domestic matches, 3 if you count the postmatch ban.

They're the first ones this season though.

Bergie should never have been sent off. Stupid referee :(

On the other hand, Fabregas should have, so it's not like you're being victimised.

Kurashima 26 Feb 2005 19:05

Re: Aint gonna win the league

And Reyes should have been sent off, and the resulting 3 match ban was justified.

PS : Wengers players are out of control, and have been for a long time.

G.K Zhukov 26 Feb 2005 19:12

Re: Aint gonna win the league

I dont agree Kura.

Bergie shouldnt have got anything. 3 matches for that, and RvN got 3 matches for trying to injure Cole for the rest of the season. Bloody brilliant FA!
Reyes a yellow card. As far as I could see, it wasnt a punch.

Cesc tackles boarders cleraly towords the red. David Pruttons tackle on Flamini today was the same situation.

dace: 50ish.. try going here

bergkamp shouldnt have got sent off, reyes should have got a minor ban, fabregas should have got yellow, and everyone seems to have missed the biggest mistake, why cullip (?) was still on the field after treading on fabregas's face..

dont know about todays stuff, will see on motd, but it is depressing that we cant keep our form :(

It was very late, 2 footed and could have broke the players leg. Easily a red card tackle.

He didnt seem to do it on purpose and i'm not even sure he properly stood on his face. He cleared the ball then fell over Fabregas, there was nothing in it.

if the guy (montgomery, was it?) hadn't lost his balance on the pass and turned away, it could have broken BOTH his legs. it was the worst tackle i've seen in months.

LHC 26 Feb 2005 20:18

Re: Aint gonna win the league

The Cullip stamp was certainly not an accident. He lined up the foot and then straightened his leg, after realising it was going to miss his head. The Fabregas tackle could have resulted in a broken leg, but the Cullip stamp could have resulted in death.

Bergkamp put his hands onto an opponents throat, and then into his face. Thats raising your hands, and thats a red card.
Reyes slapped an opponent. HE ****ING SLAPPED HIM, and aside from the fact thats also "Raising your hands" , hes ****ing lucky that the guy didnt clock him one, since lets face it, Reyes looks like he would struggle to punch his way out of a paper bag.
RVN got a 3 match ban for a bad tackle. Thats the maximum they can hand out
Fabregas got off with a tackle which was just as bad if not worse than RVN.

You've forgot about the fact that Fabregas' head nearly imploded .

Fabregas head will explode next season when Wengers refusal to condemn him for his 35th bad tackle of the season will see his ego reach the size of a small moon.

It was one bad tackle; it's hardly what he's renound for.

Seriously man, get some glasses.

Bergie showed the guy. I didnt know footie was a girls sports eh? Reyes slapped him yes, in the normal spanish girly way :(
And so what, Ive seen Roy Keane getting a yellow card for punching an opponent with the referee a meter away.
RvN wasnt even close to doing a tackle, it was a clear attempt to injure Ashley Cole. (NOTICE THAT HE WASNT CLOSE TO THE BALL).
I wouldnt have complained if cesc had been sent off for that one, just as red one have been fine for both Prutton and v.Persie today on their first stupid attempts.

It doesn't matter what you've seen. Hand to face = straight red by the rules of the game.

I agree with Zhukov...

Re: Aint gonna win the league

i think tbh if wenger doesnt instill sum discipline he is gonna cost himself more players thru suspension and he can never hope to win anything with half his team banned :D he shud do what alex ferguson did to beckham and kick a boot at him, if they cant deal with it, a la beckham, leave :)

and also, if the french national squad cant beat southampton they havent a hope in hell for the world cup :D

p.s get rid of Pascal Cygan...hes shit tbh :P

He's actually been playing pretty well this season. Toure's been the one ****ing up.

Although given you seem to think it's a good thing for a manager to kick boots at his players, your opinion can probably be ignored.

i dont think it is a good idea, i just think that wenger needs to instill some discipline into his players, something which he has so far failed to do..

This isn't really true for the whole season, rather for the last couple of weeks.

Toure hasn't looked that great all season, and Cygan's done ok when he's come in.

No Campbell for second leg against Bayern...

I think Ballack should be back for Bayern as well and it also looks like Robben could be back for Chelsea against Barca.

he's never ****ed up completely, it's just that he really doesn't do much. this means that there is far more pressure on the other centre-back than there ever should be; since this is mostly going to be toure, he's going to make far more mistakes because he's going to be doing far more.

Phalon 28 Feb 2005 01:24

Re: Aint gonna win the league

tbh i think arsenal's biggest failing this season has been due to the virtually non-existan patrick vieira.

In previous seasons when arsenal have stuttered, he's dragged them up by the short and curlies.

This season he looks like a player who wishes he'd joined Real Madrid.

G.K Zhukov 28 Feb 2005 02:00

Last season he looked like a player who wishes he'd joined Real Madrid, but the difference is last season you had Gilberto and Edu to help in the middle of the park, the rest of the team was performing well, and you had shitloads of luck.

You're probably right. Edu was extremely good last year. So many players' consistency has gone to pot. I think Chelsea set the challenge by performing well early in the season and arsenal basically defeated themselves.

PS. I know it's not really relevant but i'm no arsenal fan,

Ta.

heh, Spurs fan?

Man UTD are playing their best football right now, 17 wins and 3 draws in 20 games is premiership winnig-form any other season.

Just that this season, regretfully, Chelsea have raised the bar. Credit to them for that.

Still time to choke yet though.

Gilberto Silva, I'm presuming you to be talking about.

Sometimes the effect someone can have on a team isn't measured by their performance alone: look at the return of Rio Ferdinand to the Manchester United side; a defense that was leaking goals became one that has the 2nd best defensive record in the league, and, in any other season, would have the best. It's not that Rio plays especially well, it's that his mere presence gives the other defenders more confidence, and they all play better as a result.
