I think this is a key difference between Ascendancy and other alliances. We trust our members. Every Ascendancy member has what is normally officer access. Every Ascendancy member gets opped in the private channel. Everyone is assumed to be a grown-up.

We're not going to change this because we got owned once. We know from experience that killing people's access isn't going to prevent people from getting spies in and leaking information.

People like you who still run alliances like they're fascist security states are quaint.
A CT member accessed a now former Ascendancy member's PA account to get it.

Actually I told them last round it was PDTemplar. But CT HC decided to give PD a chance. In all honesty, its not their fault Ministry abuses trust. Altho perhaps stupid to think you guys can change.

Putting my mod hat on, to be honest when people are being flamed for being lame because they commit espionage within the rules and then find out that people are trying to play the same games by cheating, I think they can come on here and be as smart as they ****ing want. In my mind that's what makes a thread that people should be into reading - this thread seems to have been posted with the intent to embarrass Ascendancy's enemies which is what AD is for.

Taking my mod hat off: the fact that people had to go to such lengths to get Ascendancy TV set up shows that we can go on trusting our members, not that it matters either way to be honest. We wouldn't deliberately make our alliance shit because of one incident. Clearly the fact we're a good place to be means we don't have much to worry about. We've rejected the politics of cynicism and fear to the extent that even Barack himself has signed up to Ascendancy.

Well, I remember a time when cheating actually ment something. And I've never been a fan of abusing trust just to spy. Simply because its too easy.

And besides, these days you dont even have to spy to get info about who attacks where and when. People tell their galmates&friends they will have inc all the time. The little good it does when certain allies have HC's that leech def is added value.

Also I just believe what goes around comes around. Clearly CT hc were not so pleased with their chan being relayed, whether the game rules allow it or not, and had a fun 2 days of relaying themselves. That Ronin is stupid is besides the point.

Same as how ND followed by CT and the other allies decided to return the favor of using SK's. And thus have a field day with all the dist whores.

I believe everyone here has a good grasp of what is gay or lame, so those that behave in such a way get whats coming to them. Like CT last round obviously. I just resent those that pat eachothers backs when they find something gay or lame to do.

As the point is about stones and glass houses it's very much the point. The point about relaying being bad has been stupid all along, the fact that cheating had to take place for you to do it made your point even more counterproductive.

Ascendancy has provided the same message from when we were up and when we were down; we're happy with people having fun with the game and people playing the way they want to. We want to have fun too and if people say that you have to follow the strict alliance paradigm which is horrifically out of date and that we all can't have fun by doing whatever we want with the game, our only message is "yes we can". We've been doing it since round 16; it's change you can believe in.

People can relay all they want, i'm saying i'm not a fan of the tactic, and people can decide themselves whether its ace or lame. But actions cause for reactions.
I did not do any of the sort, my vote would have obviously been against it, especially with the how it was done. Perhaps counterproductive if you think I am praising my alliances actions here, but I'm not one to be blind for my own alliance faults. Unlike some others.

I'm not saying people have to follow any paradigm or other random intelligent word. People can do whatever they want, because its a game but like any game, action = reaction. People decide what is fun, and will have their fun in return. Seeing distorters destroyed is good fun for me for instance. People who have 100 distorters and now switch to FC's.

Also tbh lokken, stop trying to make Ascendancy out as the holy grail of PA. You are no different from any other ally, a bunch of people who enjoy playing with eachother in a game. You have the same amount of bad apples and make enough bad choices like the rest of us.

That's where you're wrong. Ascendancy *is* a different type of alliance than the *VAST* majority of Planetarion alliances that ever existed.

I'm slightly confused, this is what I assume has happened, can someone correct me if I'm wrong please:
CT started relaying #Ascendancy to some channel via bots that they managed to sneak into the channel after getting 1 person in there.
Ascendancy realised and used this to trick CT into sending a load of defence to Elviz.
Ascendancy have gotten rid of the people that are relaying the channel.

The bot was snuck in while P was down. This was done by Ronin, who logged into an Asc-members account who was supposed to be away(and indeed is, traveling Asia without an internet-connection), in order to get the password for #ascendancy. The incident was report to MH's, Ronin was atleast initially closed, I'm not sure what the situation is at this time, but it would seem to me that if PA follows the same guidelines for cheating as when I used to play in the past, Ronin should remain closed and be deleted for account-sharing.

Actually no. Ascendancy is different. Most alliances are not just a bunch of people who enjoy playing with each other in a game.

Might as well ask why we have so many wheels on cars. Alliances are vital to play Planetarion. But what I said was not that normal alliance precludes the members enjoying playing the game together, it was that most alliances are not there just to enjoy playing the game together.

Sure. But you have stupid draconian structures in place. How many of your members have full intel access? How many can DC? How many do you allow to play the game to the full extent?

Ascendancy is different* because it seeks to break down this structure. We don't have special people who decide who gets to be a member or not. We don't have special people who decide who has to send defense where. We don't pile responsibility on any one person. We don't have any Gates to burn out.

I don't think we're special because we're a clique. I think we're special because we're not a clique. Here's what one new recruit said:
Every time someone joins Ascendancy and has that realization, I think we did something right by starting all this. I also enjoy the ballet, opera and theatre.

I'm not sure if alliance HC realize this, because they get to play every part of the game, including the larger metagame, which is a lot of fun, but the normal alliance structure seggregates members from which parts of the game they're allowed to play. That sucks. That is like an unpaid job.

Anyhow imo in most alliances defence and attacks are the focus of attention, While in ascendancy banter, harassing(the 'good' kind) and playing planetarion in at times a 'different' way is the primary focus with attacks and defence being somewhat extras.
