Simple Dishes
My diet is appalling and the ranges of foods is so limited it's a wonder I'm still alive. the problem I have is that I have amost no knowledge of how to make food.
I was wondering if any of you have any simple recipies for well, anything. I'm trying to widen my palette so pretty much anything can be in there, but it's got to be simple to make. Any ideas? |
Re: Simple Dishes
These are the meals i usually cooked at uni:
Sweet and sour Chicken: Fry chicken breast in oil, when cooked through add sweet and sour sauce, cook rice, eat. Also works with pork. Chicken curry Fry chicken breast in oil, when cooked through add curry sauce, cook rice, eat. Bolognese kind of thing chop up onion and fry, add mince, wait until cooked stirring to make sure all of it cooks, add courgette/mushrooms/whatever you want, add chopped tomatoes or dolmio/other tomato sauce, cook pasta. eat I haven't become much more imaginative since getting into the real world. I hate spending a load of time in the kitchen if I'm just cooking for myself. |
Re: Simple Dishes
Macarroni Cheese
You can do two versions, version A which takes ages but is amazing or quick and simple B. For B get a bag of macarroni pasta, about 500g, get some colemans cheese sauces (2 packers) and some milk. Bring the pasta to boil at the same time, make the cheese sauce, just basically stir the milk into the packet sauce. Make the sauce quite creamy, I always think its better to be thick than thin. Grate a shit load of cheese (cheddar works well). Drain the pasta. Put it in a caserole dish or something similar. Pour the sauce over it. Mix it up. Put the cheese on top of it. Slip it under the grill if it will fit or in the oven for 5 minutes. It will come out gorgeous, quick, easy, 15 minute dish which feeds 4-6 people. |

also if you can be bothered fry some leeks and mix them in with the cheese sauce, also note that it needs to be mature or extra mature cheddar, preferably the latter, or your cheese sauce won't have any flavour at all. |
Re: Simple Dishes
1 pizza.
Put in oven. Turn oven up as high as it will go. Tap fingers for 20 mins. Take pizza out, making sure cheese is golden brown and a little crispy. If it is not, PUT IT BACK IN, YOU LAZY SOD! Eat. Have yourself an apple for pudding, and drink some orange juice (preferably a whole carton of Tropicana). This will go some way towards convincing you that you are eating healthily, but you will in fact just be working your way towards stomach ulcers. I did this throughout university and it has helped make me the stunted little gnome I am today. |

Re: Simple Dishes
pesto chicken pasta thing
do whatever pasta you like normally. grill the a chicken breast, you can cover it in olive oil and put chicken oxo cubes on it for a bit of crunch if you like then its done. just drain the pasta and slice the chicken, put 2 or 3 heaped spoonfuls of green pesto in a saucepan or bowl with both the chicken and pasta in and mix together. you can include vegetables too like grilled peppers which i like to do. then sprinkle some herbs de provence on and black pepper to taste. dead dead simple and healthy too another one is crispy chicken, jacket potato and salad. you should know how to do jacket potato and salad so the crispy chicken is just the same as what i said. cover chicken in olive oil and sprinkle a chicken oxo cube onto the top of it and grill. you can put cheese on the potato but thats not so healthy so try low fat cheese or creme fraiche if you like that another one thats easy to do is chicken fajitas. i like to have a red, green and yellow pepper, i put them in a pan and let them soften a little, i then add some mushrooms to cook for a little then i add the sauce, which is from a jar admittedly but its all good. i think i use the old el paso original salsa one. left them bubble over for about 5-10minutes so the peppers and mushrooms can take up the flavour and cook a little more. while thats going on grill the chicken, once thats done slice it. take the saucepan off the heat and add the chicken and mix it in with the sauce. put in a bowl or something and microwave the tortillas for a minute or so. voilá. soured cream is a good addition to this too. |
