[Football] Chelsea Away

So come saturday I had it all planned go to the football as usual, then the GD meet. Now I was supposed to be going with my old man, but hes had to pull out due to work commitments. We were going to meet each other where the villa buses are at the chelsea ground (obviously him travelling down from brum)

But my dad is no longer going, so im left on my own travelling to London on my own, going to Chelsea on my own, watching the match on my own, leaving on my own.

Now seeing as im a villa fan I wont have any problems, but i have a few questions for people.

Firstly

Do I wear team colours? Im thinking of wearing my villa shirt, but as im travelling through London, wear my jumper over it and then show it during the game, then when travelling back through London put the jumper/coat back on.

Secondly

Shall I try and look for a pub where the villa fans will go to? Or head straight to the ground?

Thirdly

Whats it like going to an away game on your own?

Finally

It will be a good game I hope, apart from the £48 chelsea charge, oh ye I hear chelseas hooligans are rather notorious :p But we will see I just cant be doing with getting into a fight, when I havent got any of my friends/family around me (or 40000 fans)

Chelsea away is the only football game where i have ever been worried about my safety. I'ld advise against wearing anything that will single you out as a Villa fan if you are going alone. Travelling to the ground on the tube wasnt a problem for us nor was the tube once we got on it after the game but in and around the game was slightly worrying.

We held them to a draw so maybe that had something to do with it. There were also some ****ing Burberry wearing Rovers fans who caused all sorts of trouble so that didnt help the situation either. Probably just a one off bad experience but when i go away i tend to take a coat/jumper to put over my Rovers shirt on the way out of the ground after the game. Beter safe than sorry.

Having been to Chelsea away, the problem always is that there will be some nasty characters after the game (their real fans are pretty similar to millwall types) so i'd bring something that covers your shirt for sure. I suspect that as long as they win, they'll be good humoured. And if they score more than once bring a sick bag for when they start singing "boring boring Chelsea". Having been to Birmingham and Forest away on my own and travelled to the bridge on my lonesome i've found i've been ok as long as I didn't have a shirt on show.

To be honest like any football match - if you are smart and leave pretty sharpish at full time, you will stay out of trouble

£48 + travel for an away game.

I'd have said fook em considering the money goes to chelsea.

So you will pay 48 quid for the chance of seeing your team loose to Chelskji, and perhaps getting beaten up by Chelskji hooligans.

If you have so much spare cash, give it to the red cross or something please.

superkev specialises in wonder goals against chelsea :)
stamford bridge is fine, i was there with sunderland and had no problems.
as for football shirts, proper hooligans will never attack people wearing there teams colours but u might still get some morons annoying u if you wear your shirt. I'd just try and look nice and respectable.

the atmosphere is shit btw

most teams from london have a shit atmosphere although the spurs fans put up a good shout when they came to villa, but thats about it (west ham were good away)

I go on my own most of the time as i'm the only one of my friends who can afford it and likes football enough. If it was like £10 then maybe they might bother but otherwise they're not that fussed enough about football.

It's fine going on your own. I just go nuts anyway. The only thing you miss is being able to talk about the game with someone. Plus on an away day people are generally more friendly than at home.

But seriously, unless someone paid for a ticket for me, I wouldn't pay money to chelsea - my club needs it more, I'll go to another home game or two. Plus the away end at Chelsea is shit cos it's alongside the pitch. Actually both times i've been i thought Chelsea wasn't that bad atmos wise last season and the season before (when my tickets were paid for me).

To be honest the best away stadium i've been to is villa (although in the home end with a villa supporting mate) - well looked after, decent prices and as long as you get out of aston quick and leave the drinks to broad street, all in all a great away day.

Also, if you are at the back left you have a restricted view.

Chelsea fans aren't actually THAT bad unless you start a fight.

My Dad was in the Chelsea Head Hunters pub (Unsure if they go to more than 1) and he had a Chelsea fan & a Newcastle fan with him.

Nothing kicks off if you're just drinking and not chanting your teams songs.

You will be fine on your own going to the majority of away football games in the Premiership providing you keep yourself to yourself and do not wind up the other team's fans.

As was the case when I went to Southampton away =)

They don't like people suggesting they have normal genetic makeup.

I've been to Chelsea away a couple of times, you'll be fine as long as you dont take the piss.

There is nothing wrong with wearing your team colours, the unspoken rule is that you dont go after shirters anyway.

Dont even think about hanging around for a pint before or after the game. Go in, watch the match, and get the **** out. If you want a quiet pint, do it up the west end, or the city, just away from the ground. Chelsea fans see other supports hanging around their area as a piss take, and they will have you for it, I've seen it happen, and its not a nice thing.

when you go to away-matches here it goes like this:

- before you can buy a ticket, you need to be registred at your club with a special 'away-card'. to make this card they need to take a picture of you where you hold some number in front of your chest. (exactly the way pictures of prisoners in america are taken);
- you can't travel on your own to most matches, there's coordinated travel by bus/train to the stadium;
- when you arrive at the stadium, you walk through some kind of heavily guarded corridor, to the side of the away-team;
- in the stadium fences, cops and empty sides keep you at a safe distance from the home-crowd;
- after the match you have to wait atleast 15 minutes before you're allowed to leave the side, to avoid contact with hostile fans;
- coordinated travel back. no chance on 'having a pint' or whatever.

(tbh holland is shite for away-matches, i advice you all to visit a bundesliga match some time; fans of the home and away team just drink with each other there, also when they are big rivals).

Does this only happen at some places or in all stadiums? And do you think it´s necessary?

all stadiums have got security (fences, cops). some matches you can visit on your own though, without coordinated travel.
and ofc some safety-measures are absolutely necessary. but the point is people are a little bit exagerating now with the 'away-card' etc. i don't think people deserve to be treated as criminals before they have done anything wrong.

(sometimes it's nice to have cops around though.)
