Who?

My daughter has just caught me watching 'Batman Begins',:o and asked me an interesting question.

So I will put it to this Forum

Who is your favorite fictional hero and why?

After sitting for a while I realised that I couldn't answer, because I know of so many I like.

Re: Who?

It used to be batman until recently a commie acquaintance pointed out batman really represents the worst of the capitalist bourgeoisie

'hi im multi billionaire industrialist and playboy bruce wayne, the hated underclass once killed my family so instead of spending my money helping to solve the problems of society i instead spend it on rivaling the government-military-industrial complex in developing technology to beat the shit out of people at night that i exploit by day'

I dunno, wonderwoman 'cause shes hot?

Re: Who?

Spiderman all the way. He's the ultimate teen action hero! His powers aren't due to birth defects or serious emotional problems or a yellow sun, it's completely by accident.

One day he just found he had superpowers, who doesn't dream of that?

Re: Who?

I'm picking Jesus because he is always overlooked in these discussions despite his awesome powers. To be fair though, he was a bit soft on the issues of crime and leprosy, which does detract from his popular appeal.

Re: Who?

I enjoy the comic book hero's but the are so American even most the ones that arn't.

Thats not a critisim of Americans just an acceptance that I prefare the culture I grew up with.

For me Arthur Dent is a greater hero. I think its just his acceptance that the universe is there to iritate and provide him with substandard Tea.

But there must be a greater hero than Arthur
Away I go to ponder again:confused:

I hope you impaled him on his own idiocy.

Re: Who?

I'm not fond of Batman either for similar reasons. :(

Roscharch is pretty cool, even if he's a right-wing nut - I like his uncomprising stance, especially at the end of the Watchmen. The character he is semi-based on - the Question - from the DC Universe is also pretty cool.

And since I've started re-watching the series for the umpteenth time I've got to mention Buffy, even though she's not necessarily any good by herself.

Outside of the comic book style heroes Gandalf and Aragorn are awesome and Sherlock Holmes is both a druggie and a genius, so he needs a mention.

Gambit from X-men. Why they never put him in the movies I don't know caus he's the coolest one in the old comic series.

I can't even decide on tiny categories like favourite discworld or Shakespeare character.

Discworld - easily Death. Vimes as a close runner and Vetinari as a supporting character every time, but Death takes the title.

Shakespeare - I haven't read/seen enough of his plays.

Re: Who?

Liono from Thundercats has always been a bit of a favourite. Other than that Gambit in X-Men cartoons/comics was the absolute daddy's wotsits. Womanising ftw.

Surely Shakespeare was real not fictional.
If we include real hero,s mine has to be Eric Bloodaxe viking king of northen England

Since we're talking about fictional characters, I don't think we can include 'real people'.

Me... when I close my eyes I can shoot laserbeams from my eyes and fireballs from my arse.
And I carry a big ass sword on my back that stands as tall as myself. And when I swing that sword it shoots a blade of energy that can slice metal.
And I can call upon the spirit of Prometheus which can take the form of a giant dragon with a body of fire.
Oh... and I can fly too.

But apart from that, Arucard from Hellsing is cool. Evil, but not as evil as the really evil guy.

Captain Planet

Earth!
Fire!
Wind!
Water!
Heart!

GO PLANET!

With your powers combined I am Captain Planet!

Captain Planet, he's our hero,
Gonna take pollution down to zero,
He's our powers magnified,
And he's fighting on the planet side

Captain Planet, he's our hero,
Gonna take pollution down to zero,
Gonna help him put us under,
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder

"You'll pay for this Captain Planet!"

(chanting)
We're the planeteers,
You can be one too!
'Cause saving our planet is the thing to do,
Looting and polluting is not the way,
Hear what Captain Planet has to say:

"THE POWER IS YOURS!!"
