Cathaar?
 

I know its extremely early round, but after having a quick look at Sandmans', i was quite surprised to see how poorly Cathaar was going. I mean, only 5 planets in the top 100? Cathaar used to always do the best at the start of the round, benefiting strongly in early research.

So, given that Cathaar is usually quite well ahead during the early round, what are the causes for this apparent slip?
Is it just that top players have abandoned the race in favour of Zik and Xan?
Is it just that Cathaars are stockpiling right at this moment as they're bound to get more incoming that they otherwise would deserve?
Have people finally given up with the race?
Or is it because tobbe went Cathaar and he's bringing all the statistics down?


So, its terrible judging it this early, but why is Cathaar failing during a period of normal strength?

more people go for 300 roids + now, and those who go for construtions will have a lead untill the caths let out their ships at around pt72?

But isnt this consistent behaviour with Cathaar normally? And even despite this, arent they usually doing better at this stage of the round?

That's essentially my point.

Cathaars tend to do their best in the opening stages of the round, when their research bonus is strongest. So, is it only downhill for them now, or once they have their cruisers then Cathaar will perk up again in the (later) early round into the mid-round, and i've just looked at Sandmans a day and a half too early?

Any sane cath stops at 100\200 roids and go for cruisers.

tbh I agree with wishmaster at this stage the rankings are unduly influenced by the score from constructions so cathaar are bound to be doing badly... imo cathaar do best at the start of the round once they can start attacking and gain xp rather than before that.
it is also possible that more cats have gone for feudalism rather than unification due to the salvage bonus they get, this would affect their rankings because atm the 15% mining bonus has an influence while the 14% less cost has not yet begun to kick in.

tobbe got to be #1 in Universe, AND #1 Cathaar.

Clearly, my original assertion that something is wrong with the race is correct. :)
